Jauzac page 279, 'Au Globe Dore' binding, type 3B, dated 1899-1902. With 66mm line, followed by '5926B. - Paris' to the tail of page 424, and without a publisher's catalogue. These copies were produced from 1899 to 1902.

First published in 1895, this is a delightful science fiction tale that relates the adventure of a sting quartet aboard a massive ship in the Pacific Ocean, which is inhabited entirely by millionaires.

In a beautiful cartonnage binding by Verne's published, Hetzel. These bindings were produced ahead of Christmas with the hope that they would make popular gifts; Hetzel furthered the popularity of Verne's work with these publications.

Illustrated with a frontispiece, twelve colour plates, and a colour map by L. Bennet, alongside further vignette illustrations. Collated, complete.

An excellent copy of this beautifully bound work.

Condition

In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Externally, lovely. Bumping to spine head, with fading to back strip, and small area of fading around title of front board. Light spotting to front board head, with minor handling marks to rear boards. Front hinge strained, and a touch tender, with rear board strained and firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned to perimeters, with instances of spotting throughout.
