Illustrated, Leather Binding, Rebound

A collection of volumes I to IV of Victorian monthly magazine The Wide World Magazine, running from 1898 to 1965. The present collection containing consecutive numbers from April 1898 to March 1900. 

With 'true tales' of adventure and travel stories from around the world. This collection includes instalments from the celebrated story of 'The Adventures of Louis de Rougemont' among others; described as "the most amazing story a man ever lived to tell", it tells the story of a man who spent thirty years in the outback of Australia (later exposed as a hoax). 

Largely illustrated with numerous black and white photographic plates and other illustrations in text by numerous artists including Terence Cuneo, Gordon Browne, and William Barnes Wollen among others. 

Contributors include Fred Singer, M. L. Lindsay, G. A. Wade, and Edward Walton among others. 

Index to vol. II and III bound to front instead of rear.

Condition

Rebound in uniform half calf bindings over marbled boards, renewed endpapers. Externally smart with minor shelf wear, lightly rubbed to spine. Hinges only slightly strained, holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. Few minor spots to first few leaves, otherwise pages generally bright and clean.
