This work is a fictionalised account of a seaman's experiences on a cruise of a South Sea whaler. The novel is semi-autobiographical, based on the author's experiences.
Illustrated with a frontispiece, a folding map, and seven plates. Collated, complete.
With the stamp of E. D. Ridley to head of front free endpaper, half title, and frontispiece recto.
Written by Frank Thomas Bullen. Bullen was a novelist who first went to sea when he was twelve, travelling to all parts of the world. He was the second mate of the Harbinger, and the chief mate of the Day Dawn.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with a touch of discolouration to back strip. Hinges strained, but firmly held. Former owner's stamp to head of front free endpaper, half title, and frontispiece recto. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
