What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding
The two volume first UK edition of this work of polar exploration, first published earlier in the same year in the US.
A fascinating autobiographical work by American Arctic explorer Robert Peary.
Peary famously claimed to have reached the geographic North Pole during his expedition with Matthew Henson; however, in modern day it is generally accepted that they did not quite make it.
This work cover the first three of Peary's eight expeditions to Greenland and towards the North Pole, with the author providing personal and technical information about his voyages.
Illustrated with around eight hundred vignette and full page illustrations, a frontispiece to each volume, and a folding map of the arctic region to the rear of volume II. Collated, complete.
With faint pencil inscriptions and bibliographical notices to the title page of each volume.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, exceptionally bright with bumping to back strip head and tail. Front hinges strained, but firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, and generally exceptionally clean, with pencil inscriptions to each title page.
