The thirtieth, new edition in one volume. First published in 1897. 

Illustrated with a monochrome portrait frontispiece and forty-three illustrations including plates, folded maps and vignettes. Collated complete. 

This work was written by Field Marshall Frederick Sleigh Roberts, the 1st Earl Roberts. The author provides an account of the forty-one years living in India where he was born, and where he served as an officer in the Indian Rebellion, for which he was awarded the Victoria Cross for gallantry.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth. Externally smart with fading to the spine with very small closed tears to the head and tail, slight handling marks to the boards and bumping to the extremities. Front hinge starting with scattered spotting and offsetting to the endpapers with relevant newspaper articles adhered to the front. Internally firmly bound with lightly age toned pages with light spotting to the front and rear and to the verso of the odd plate.
