An uncommon, signed, first edition, bound in smart red cloth, of this love letter to Didsbury and the wider Manchester area. Signed by the author to the dedication leaf.
With a frontispiece, nineteen further monochrome plates and further in text vignette illustrations. Collated complete.
This title includes many of the author's photographs, which have made a significant contribution to the local historical record. A written encapsulation of the superstitions and story-telling history of the local population. This book reflects the Fletcher Moss' horticultural and local interest, also immortalised through his donation of botanical gardens to the city of Manchester in 1915, which were subsequently named after him.
With a gilt top edge, and beautiful gilt motif to front board.
Condition
Red cloth binding. Externally, smart with slight shelf wear. Slight fading and rubbing to the spine. Wear on spine tips. Bumped head and tail. Slight breaking along base of both hinges. Spotting to the endpapers. Age toning to front and rear free end papers. Internally, pages generally bright and clean, slight spotting throughout. Binding generally firm, occasional weaknesses.
