First edition. Illustrated with frontispiece, sixteen plates, and fifteen in-text images. Collated complete. A detailed study of the birds of London, considering them by species and then by geographical location. With chapters on crows, daw, rooks, and small birds, including a commentary on their movements and recent colonists to the area. Written by William Henry Hudson, an Anglo-Argentinian author, naturalist, and ornithologist who was a critic of Darwinism and instead advocated for Lamarckian evolution. Illustrated by Bryan Hook, an English artist, Arthur David McCormick, a British illustrator and painter, from photographs by Reginald Badham Lodge, an English ornithologist, photographer, and painter. With publisher's catalogue to the rear.
Condition
In the original green cloth binding. Externally, smart with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and the odd small mark to the board. A small split in the cloth to the top edge of the front board. Rear hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with light scattered spotting to the first and last few pages.
