    Five selected works from comedic writer W. W. Jacobs, including Sea Urchins (1898, Lawrence and Bullen, 4th Edition), Light Freights (1902, Methuen, 4th Edition), Odd Craft (1904, George Newnes), Dialstone Lane (1906, Methuen) and Ship's Company (1911, Hodder and Stoughton).

    In the publisher's original pictorial cloth. Little Freights, Odd Craft, Dialstone Lane and Ship's Company contain a frontispiece and illustrations by Will Owen. All twelve illustrations in Little Freights. All sixteen illustrations in Odd Craft. All sixty-one illustrations in Dialstone Lane, and all twenty-three illustrations in Ship's Company. Collated Complete.

    Jacobs was skilled at combining the humour of everyday life with dread. Heavily drawing upon his own father's experiences as a dockworker, many of Jacobs's stories center on wayward sailors and their misadventures. This is seen with all six of these works, with even the village tale Dialstone Lane involving the colourful Captain Bowers.

    Condition

    In the publisher's original pictorial cloth. Externally, smart with minimal marks. Slight fading to boards of Odd Craft and to spine of Sea Urchins. Signs of shelf wear, with slight bumping to head and tail of spines. End papers are generally bright and clean. Mild offsetting to end papers of Sea Urchins and Odd Craft, heavier to Ship's Company and Little Freights. Mild spotting to end papers of Little Freights. Internally, generally firmly bound, with a disbound plate to p.216 in Little Freights, and wear to hinge at title leaf of Sea Urchins. Pages are generally bright and clean. Mild spotting to leaf extremities of Odd Craft, heavier spotting to Little Freights.
