The uncommon first trade edition of this work. It first appeared in print the year prior, in a limited edition printed by Morris's own Kelmscott Press.

The work of famed British artist, textile designer, and socialist William Morris.

The novel follows a young woman named Birdalone, who embarks on a quest to find a magical water, travelling through a succession of strange and wonderful islands. Throughout her journey, Birdalone encounters fantastical creatures, a witch, and knights.

With an advertisement leaf to the rear.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with significant fraying in these regions. Lacking the majority of the spine label, with the remaining portion significantly age toned. Joints starting, with boards tenderly held. Lacking front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Significant tide mark to tail of front free endpaper to tail of page 7. Pages otherwise bright, with light spotting throughout.
