The first edition of this work from John William Willis-Bund, a British lawyer, legal writer and professor of constitutional law and history, who wrote on the Welsh church amongst other subjects.

Regarded as a book of 'original, but highly disputable, views', on the history of the Welsh Church. Willis-Bund identified this work as 'an attempt to regard some of the points of Welsh Church organization from the Celtic side'.

With chapters dedicated to monasteries, bishops, the tribal system and characteristics of the Celtic church.
