The second edition. 

A vanishingly scarce contemporary copy of this work, containing five short stories by British writer, Menie Muriel Dowie. 

Includes the story of a chance meeting in Vienna, a family ailed by the unfit eldest son, and the keen observations made by a narrator who works in a boutique hat shop. 

In the original cloth binding. 

Her first novel, 'Gallia' (1895) clearly marked Dowie as one of the New Woman writers due to its controversy concerning its depiction of sexual relationships.

Condition

in the original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. With light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Light marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with offsetting to the endpapers only.
