Written by R. Ussher.
An interesting work discussing the effects of population growth on society, exploring the theory suggested by eighteenth-century economist, Thomas Robert Malthus, that population growth leads to poverty and social crises. In particular, this work considers into the economy and morality of the subject.
Notably, this work provides an insight into attitudes towards sexual ethics in late Victorian society. The author presents the view that in some cases, ideas were starting to change on the subject, suggesting it can be more beneficial for women to refuse to bear children.
