Signed by the author, dedicated to another brother at the lodge to the recto of front endpaper. An advanced copy of the book, as stated by Whitting to the loosely inserted letter. The recipient seems to be one Edgar Goble. From the library of the Lodge of Harmony, Fareham. The 'Lodge of Harmony' was first warranted in 1796 and is lodge no 309. The lodge of Harmony merged with moderns to become the United Grand Lodge of England. With a hand-coloured medal for the Lodge of Hengist to the title page. Written by C J Whitting, W M of the Lodge and J of the chapter. With a facsimile plate of the Royal Warrant for the lodge preceding the title page. Twenty illustrations total, collated complete. The first edition of this work. The Lodge of Hengist is lodge no 195 and was consecrated 23 November 1770. This history took Whitting six months to write and was written with the brethren of Lodge Hengist in mind as the primary audience. A superb copy, which remains unopened at the fore-edge to the majority of the work.

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, very smart with just some minor shelfwear to the head and tail of spine. Author's inscription to the recto of front endpaper. Loosely inserted letter from the author. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Occasional scattered spots to the fore-edge. Pages are otherwise generally clean.
