A lovely two volume first edition set, in original lime cloth, and decorated with gilt text and inscription decoration to front boards.
Both volumes feature monochrome frontispiece portraits of key figures in the Hazlitt family - of John and William Hazlitt, respectively.
Volume 1 features an additional 4 monochrome plates of Hazlitt family portraits.
Collated, complete.
One of many publications by W. Carew Hazlitt, grandson of William Hazlitt, the British essayist, drama and literature critic, painter, social commentator and philosopher. Hazlitt's literary criticisms were hugely influential during his lifetime, and he surrounded himself with a number of highly successful literary figures, such as Keats, Coleridge and Wordsworth.
Both copies feature the bookplate of stonemason and Aberdeen architect John Morgan to front paste downs.

Bound in original green cloth. Externally, in lovely condition. Bookplates to front paste downs. Age toning to vol2 endpapers. Slight rubbing to spine. Mild rubbing to spine tips. Bumping to head and tail. Internally, generally firmly bound - hinges just starting. Pages generally bright and clean.
