    Description

    Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

    A 'New Edition' of Twain's work, first published by Chatto in 1890. An early impression of this edition, with 1897 to the title page, but a later state publisher's catalogue, dated January 1898.

    A delightful work of travel literature, a mixture of autobiography and imagined events, focused on the author's journey through south-western Germany. 

    Illustrated by W. FR. Brown, True Williams, B. Day and others, with a frontispiece and three-hundred and fourteen vignette and full page illustrations.

    With a thirty-two page publisher's catalogue to the rear.

    Condition

    In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to spine head and tail, with small splits to cloth. Minor loss of cloth to head of rear board. Rear hinge strained, but firmly held. Loss to head of front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages a touch age toned to perimeters, but otherwise clean and bright.
