A very scarce number of 'Pearson's Magazine', for January 1896, a striking Royal Edition. This was the first number of the magazine to ever be published, which continued in monthly publication until November 1939.
Walter Besant's bookplate loosely inserted.
'Pearson's Magazine' was a popular periodical which published speculative fiction, socialist politics, and essays on the arts. It's notable for serializing 'The War of the Worlds' in 1897.
This issue includes 'The Voice of Love' by Walter Besant and W. H. Pollock, 'The Bravest Deed I Ever Saw' by Archibald Forbes, 'The Vigil of Count Amadeo' by Anthony Hope, 'Secrets of the Courts of Europe' by Allen Upward, 'First Attempts at Photography' by A. W., and more.
With illustrations throughout, by a selection of artists.
Including an advert for the magazine loosely inserted.
Condition
In the original publisher's moire binding. Externally, smart, with a few light marks to the boards and spine. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A few spots to the fore edge. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
