First edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece, eighteen plates, and twelve in-text images. Collated complete. The biography of John Porter, an English Thoroughbred flat racing trainer whose horses won the English Triple Crown three times. He has been described by the National Horseracing Museum as "undoubtedly the most successful trainer of the Victorian era." Edited by Byron Webber, a British sportswriter.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding with gilt. Externally, smart with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Minor fading to the spine. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting, predominantly to the first and last few pages. Contemporary ink inscription and previous owner's bookplate to the front endpapers.
