A biography of Norwegian polymath and Nobel Peac Prize Laureate, Fridtjof Wedel-Jarlsberg Nansen, giving an account of his life between 1861 and 1896. Nansen led the team that made the first crossing of Greenland in 1888 and won international fame after reaching a record northern latitude during his Fram expedition of 1893-1896. His techniques of polar travel and innovations in clothing and equipment have had a lasting influence on subsequent expeditions. Written by Waldemar Christofer Brøgger, a Norwegian geologist and minerologist, and Nordahl Rolfsen, a Norwegian writer, teacher, and journalist. Translated to the German by Eugen Von Enzberg, a German translator and writer.
Condition
In the original pictorial cloth binding. Externally, smart with light shelf wear and minor bumping to the extremities. The odd small mark to the board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd handling mark. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpapers.
