A very scarce copy of the 1896 edition of Edmondo De Amicis' translated work.

In original deep blue cloth binding, with a elaborate gilt motif to the front board, and a gilt top edge.

Originally published as a translation by Caroline Tilton in 1878, this work tracks the legacy, social and physical geography of the historic city now known as Istanbul.

Features a monochrome frontispiece, and 24 further monochrome plates, in addition to illustrated chapter headers.
Collated, complete.

Condition

Bound in original blue cloth. Externally, in lovely condition. Bumping to extremities. Rubbing to bottom edge of boards. some leaves unopened, including the plates facing p.252 and p.324. Internally, firmly bound. Slight strain. Binding of title and contents pages weakening. Pages consistently bright and clean.
