First edition. For private circulation only. Illustrated with a folding map frontispiece, nine plates, and many in-text images. Collated complete. Originally appearing in The Gardeners' Chronicle while he was away, this book features the author's notes from his travels through India, Malaysia, Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zealand. The purpose of the tour was to gain further understanding of the local vegetation, and the conditions within which they grow. Many illustrations detail the indigenous plants he found along the way. Written by James Herbert Veitch, an English horticulturalist and member of the Veitch family who were considered distinguished horticulturists and nursery-men for over a century.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with rubbing to the extremities resulting in minor loss of the cloth to the head and tail of the spine. Fading to the spine and the odd small mark to the boards. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd spot. Minor age toning to the endpapers. A 2" closed tear to the folding map due to handling.
