Early Edition, First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding

This set comprises seven cookery volumes, as varied as sauce recipes from French-American chef and culinary writer Louis Diat, to a charming series of anecdotes about life on a farm in the early 20th century. 

Other notable works included here are a cookbook from American nutritionist and self-help writer, Gayelord Hauser, who is best-known for promoting the 'natural way of eating' during the mid-20th century.

Including the following titles:

Cookery Up-to-Date by Mrs. Humphry (1896) – First edition. With advertisements to the pastedowns, front endpapers and five leaves to the rear. 

The Odd Farmhouse by The Odd Farmwife (1913) – Presentation copy of the first edition, blind stamped to the title page. One leaf of advertisements to the rear, with a tear. 

Mrs. Lucas’s French Cookery Book: With some Additional Hints from English and American Kitchens by Elizabeth Lucas (1934) – Fourth edition

The Gayelord Hauser Cook Book: Good Food, Good Health, Good Looks (1955) – First edition

Sauces: French and Famous by Louis Diat (1955) – First edition

Cooking Ahead by Barbara Worsley-Gough (1957) – First edition. With fly leaves of original dust wrapper loosely inserted.

Condition

In the original cloth bindings. Externally, smart, with most notable rubbing to the 'French Cookery' and 'Odd Farmhouse'. Damp stains to boards of 'Cookery Up-to-Date' and 'Gayelord Hauser', and marks to the front board and spine of 'Odd Farmhouse'. Fading to the cloth of 'Cooking Ahead' and slight darkening to the spine of 'Odd Farmhouse'. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with offsetting or a few scattered spots to the majority of the endpapers. Contemporary ink inscriptions to front free endpapers of 'Cooking Ahead' and 'Vegetarian'. Ownership bookplate of ones Martin and Pamela Finch to the front free endpapers of all but 'French Cookery'.
