Alfred Tennyson was the Poet Laureate for most of Queen Victoria's reign, securing great success during his lifetime. His poems still live on, with him becoming one of the most popular British poets ever. His writing career lasted for almost seventy years, first publishing in 1827, and continuing to publish up until his death in 1892. His works, with its medievalism and visual imagery, was a major influence on the Pre-Raphaelites.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Spines and extremities are faded. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities, resulting in a small amount of loss to the head and tail of the spines, heavier to Volume I. Spine labels are faded with spots and rubbing. Tidemark to the spine label of Volume VII. Light rubbing and marks to the cloth, heavier mark to the front board of Volumes V and VIII, rear board of Volume VI, and to the boards of VII. Dampstain to the boards of Volume II. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with the occasional scattered spot. Tidemark to the frontispiece of Volumes II, VI, VII, VIII, and IX, smaller to Volume V. Frontispiece, title page, and contents up to page vi in Volume VIII are detached but present.
