A collection of quatrains attributed to Omar Khayyam, a Persian polymath, known for contributions made to astronomy, philosopher, poetry, and mathematics. There is a tradition of attributing poetry to Khayyam, which became widely known to the English-reading world following this translation which was found to be very popular due to the interest in Orientalism of the fin de siecle. Translated by Edward Fitzgerald, an English poet and writer.
Condition
In the original full paper vellum binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spine. Light marks and fading to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small handling mark. Light age toning to the endpapers. Bookseller's blind stamp and previous owner's bookplate to the front endpaper.
