First edition. Illustrated with a monochrome frontispiece and eighteen plates. Collated complete. 'The Red True Story Book' is one of Lang's classic true story collection for children about prominent historical figures, mainly drawn from European history. With titles including 'The Life and Death of Joan the Maid', 'A Wonderful Voyage' and 'How Marbot Crossed the Danube'. One of the 'Lang's Fairy Books' series of twenty-five collections of true and fictional stories for children published by Lang and his wife, Leonora Blanche Alleyne. Edited by Andrew Lang, a Scottish poet, novelist, literary critic, and contributor to the field of anthropology best known as a collector of folk and fairy tales. Illustrated by Henry Justice Ford, a prolific English artist and illustrator.

Condition

Rebacked with the original red cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine with light fading to the board edges with the odd small mark. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting throughout.
