A charming later edition of Robert Southey's respected biography on the British naval hero, published by Bickers and Son in 1895. Includes a contemporary gift inscription from previous owner. 

In full morocco, with a frontispiece of Lemuel Francis Abbott's famous portrait of the admiral. Contains all 12 illustrations of key events from Nelson's life by famous painter Richard Westall. Collated complete. 

Southey's Life of Nelson has been cited by many historians as the most influential work portraying the admiral, being fundamental to building his iconic status as a naval hero that remains to this day. A poet laureate, much of the biography's longevity is due to Southey's engaging style of writing when relaying Nelson's epic history.

In full morocco. Externally, in excellent condition, with minimal shelf wear and handling marks. End papers are bright and clean. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Book ribbon in-tact.
