First edition. Illustrated with sixteen plates. Collated complete. A detailed and comprehensive study of a garden in Gloucestershire over the course of a year, with a chapter on each of the months. This work explores the changes with the seasons and varieties of plants that grow and flower at different times, as well as providing a guide to planting and pruning. Written by Henry Nicholson Ellacombe, a British plantsman and author on botany and gardening. Ellacombe grew a wide range of plants at his home in Bitton and exchanged plants and seeds with Kew and other botanical gardens across Europe.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Light spotting and minor age toning to the first and last few pages. Contemporary ink inscription to the half-title.
