Drawing on archival sources, personal recollections, and earlier printed works, Bishop offers a lively narrative of the town's development, including its architecture, notable residents, and the influence of royal patronage, particularly that of the Prince Regent, later George IV.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, otherwise externally excellent. Hinges strained, but firmly held. Inscription to a front blank. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright, with the odd pencil notation throughout.
