Following the adventures of a member of the lowest nobility, an hidalgo from La Mancha named Alonso Quijano, who reads so many chivalric romances that he loses his mind and decides to become a knight-errant. In order to revive chivalry and serve his nation he takes the name Don Quixote de la Mancha. Written by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, an Early Modern Spanish writer widely regarded as the greatest writer in the Spanish language and one of the world's pre-eminent novelists. Translated by Henry Edward Watts, a British journalist and author on Spanish topics. With two pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear of each volume.
Condition
In the original red cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spine. The odd small mark to the boards. Front hinge just starting but firm to volume two only. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting, predominantly to the foredge and endpapers. Minor age toning to the extremities.
