Complete in two volumes. Van Tassel edition. Volume one is illustrated with a frontispiece, seventeen plates, and many in-text images or decorations. Volume two is illustrated with a frontispiece, thirteen plates, and many in-text images or decorations. Collated complete. A collection of thirty-four essays and short stories, originally published serially between 1819 and 1820, which includes some of the author's best known works such as "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and "Rip Van Winkle." This work also marks Irving's first use of the pseudonym Geoffrey Crayon, which he would continue to employ throughout his literary career. Written by Washington Irving, an American short-story writer, essayist, biographer, historian, and diplomat.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and fading to the extremities. The odd small mark to the boards. Front hinge just starting but firm to volume one. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with minor age toning to the endpapers.
