This two-volume set is a richly illustrated and regionally focused ornithological study by Thomas Littleton Powys, 4th Baron Lilford. 

These works include 24 photogravure plates drawn by Archibald Thorburn in volume one with a frontispiece, and seven in volume two with a folding map to the rear, with numerous wood-engravings by George E. Lodge. Collated, complete.

Drawing from articles first published in the Journal of the Northamptonshire Natural History Society (1889–1893), the book offers meticulous, species-by-species accounts of birdlife in and around Northamptonshire, detailing habits, migration, breeding, and local distribution. 

Lord Lilford (1833–1896) was one of the eight founders of the British Ornithologists’ Union (1858), its president from 1867 until his death, and the first President of the Northamptonshire Natural History Society.
