What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Folding Maps, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce

The first edition of this scarce work.

An account of India as it was under Crown Rule, focusing on the 604,717 square miles of principalities and chiefships which lay within the recognised boundaries of British India.

In this work, the author questions how the British rule changed India, and how the country princes survive the shock of a succession of polices so dissimilar than their own.

Illustrated with one folding map. Collated, complete.

By Sir William Lee-Warner, a colonial administrator in the Indian Civil Service.

Reprinted in 1910 under the title 'The Native States Of India'.

Two pages of adverts to the rear.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with marks to the boards. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Hinges are starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean.
