A collection of four volumes documenting the communion plate in the churches of London, and of the parish churches in the counties of London, Middlesex and Essex: Part I. Published from 1894-99, each a first edition. By Edwin Freshfield.

With historical notice on each plate and descriptions. 

Each volume is the author's presentation copy, inscribed to the front free endpaper with the author's compliments dated 1896, and with a letter by the author tipped in to the volume 'City of London' dated 1896-7, thanking the addressee, and a note tipped in to the 'County of Middlesex, 'with Edwin Freshfield's compliments.' 

With an extensive introduction to the 'City of London' volume, discussing the Acts of Parliament which govern the City Churches, and a brief historical note of the plate. 

'City of London' is illustrated with fifteen full page plates; 'County of London' with twenty-four; 'County of Middlesex' with fifteen. Collated complete. 'County of Essex: Part I' with five.
