Illustrated with a frontispiece, map, eight monochrome plates, and numerous in-text figures. Collated, complete.
Comprising the letters and sketches of Margaret Paton, a British missionary to the New Hebrides (now Vanuatu) and founder of the Presbyterian Women's Missionary Union. She married John Gibson Paton in 1864 the year after his return from the New Hebrides, and together they set up a new base on the small island of Aniwa funded by the Presbyterian Church of Victoria. During the fifteen years on the island, the whole population (of about 200 people) identified as Christian.
These intriguing letters and sketches describe Paton's first impressions, early mission days, family and church life, slavers, and a tour round the islands in 1889.
