New edition. Including discussions of John Milton and Samuel Johnson as well as The Pilgrim's Progress and Moore's Life of Byron, as well as many others. Macaulay was a Scottish historian essayist, historian and poet. In January 1825 he made his début in the Edinburgh Review with an article on West Indian slavery. The following August the Edinburgh published his ‘Milton’ essay, which made him famous.

Condition

In a full calf armorial prize binding. Externally sound, with wear to the head and tail of the spine and some marks to the boards. Joints starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Neat ink inscription dated 1896 to front pastedown. Pages are quite bright and clean, with just some slight marginal browning.
