What Our Customers Say...

Description

Leather Binding, Prize Binding, Rebound

This is a collection of critical and historical essays published by Lord Macaulay through the Edinburgh Review. They have been praised for their readability, but criticised for their 'inflexible attachments to the Whig school of history'.

Contents include essays on figures such as  'Milton', 'Machiavelli', 'Moore's Life of Lord Byron', as well as 'Lord Clive', 'Leigh Hunt', and 'Warren Hastings'.

A new edition of this work, originally published in 1843.

Thomas Babington Macaulay (1800-1859) was a British historian and Whig politician. He served as the Secretary of War from 1839 to 1841, and was primarily responsible for the introduction of Western  institutional education to India.

Handsomely bound in full calf prize binding for St. Paul's School, and containing a prize bookplate to the front pastedown: 'Apposition 1897, John Barclay Heron, Third Prize'.
