What Our Customers Say...

Description

Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce

A scarce programme for Buffalo Bill's 1894 show run at Ambrose Park, South Brooklyn, New York.

Illustrated throughout.

Buffalo Bill was an American showman, soldier, and bison hunter. He was famous for his tours, which began touring the States in 1883, and Europe in 1887.

Bill was the figurehead of the American Old West, his shows displaying cowboy themes and escapades, as well as tales from the American Civil War and Indian Wars.

The show was performed twice a day, rain or shine, at 3pm and 8.15pm, with a capacity of 20,000. Though it was a large and successful show, the expenses were so high that the endeavour lost money.

Ink inscription of Ella Howard to the head of the front wrap, dated Saturday 28th August 1894.

An interesting piece of Victorian Americana.
