In a half calf binding. A collection of twelve of the monthly periodicals from Brown's Book-Stall, edited by the publisher A. Brown & Co., covering the year 1894. The Christmas edition periodical for 1894 was the last one they ever published. Frontispiece depicting a the art saloon of Brown's bookshop. 1 plate depicting Dunnottar Castle by J. These periodicals contain articles about the history of book-buying and booksellers; advertisements for the various magazines they sell each month in the bookshop, and for Brown's fine art exhibition in their art saloon; descriptive portraits and obituaries of advertisers and contributors; amusing anecdotes concerning the men of Aberdeen; poetry; and book recommendations. They also contain some very charming Victorian advertisements for other companies. Alexander Brown's bookshop was opened in 1785, advertised as a "Booksellers, Bookbinders, Stationers, Circulating Library, Art Salon". Brown also served as Provost of Aberdeen between 1822-1823 and 1826-1827.
