A detailed work charting the author's own experiences with the Romani traveller population, first in Philadelphia and subsequently in various European locations, such as Budapest and Slovakia. She considered it the most significant of her many pilgrimages for because of the deep sense of kinship both Elizabeth and Joseph felt towards the (romanticised) 'gipsy' existence. She was known as a columnist, biographer, cookbook collector, and art critic, as well as a writer of travelogues, mainly of European cycling voyages, and memoirs, centred on her London salon.
