1893 The Green Fairy Book
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Early Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding
The second edition of the third work in noted Scottish poet and literary critic Andrew Lang's 'Fairy Book' series, in the exceptionally bright publisher's pictorial cloth binding.
A pioneer in the field of collecting fairy and folk tales, many of these tales made their first appearance in the English language due to Lang's translation. Although Lang made most of the selections himself for the works, his wife and other translators did a large portion of the translating and retelling of the stories.
This volume assembled stories from the Spanish and Chinese traditions, and includes 'The Magic Swan', 'Rosanella', 'The Three Little Pigs', 'The Story of the Three Bears', 'The Riddle', and 'The Biter Bit'.
Illustrated throughout by Henry Justice Ford, a noted English illustrator best known for his contributions to Lang's works, including a frontispiece and twelve plates. Collated, complete.
With two pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear, and a former owner's inscription, dated Christmas 1892 to a front endpaper.
