1893 The Complete Indian Housekeeper and Cook
What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce
The third edition. All contemporary editions are very scarce, with this being a very rare to see nineteenth century edition.
A fascinating volume which offers detailed advice on supervising servants, maintaining hygiene, and coping with the unfamiliar climate and customs, alongside recipes adapted for Anglo-Indian tastes. Written by two British women with extensive experience living in colonial India, the book served as an essential guide for British 'memsahibs' (wives of colonial officials) managing households in the region.
In the publisher's original pictorial cloth.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth. Externally worn with fading and marks to the boards, fading to the spine, and front joint weak and rear tender. Front free endpaper weak with hinges tender. Contemporary ink inscription to the front free endpaper. Internally, binding starting to the rear, with lightly age toned pages with the odd minor spot, slightly heavier to the front and rear. A good candidate for re-binding.
