Edited by the author's brother, Samuel H. Romilly and with an introduction by Lord Stanmore.

Bookplate of Peter Dowding Prankerd to front paste down. Prankerd was an English businessman who made significant money in Colonial South Australian real estate.

This collection of Romilly's letters chronicles fourteen years of his experiences across colonial outposts, including Fiji, New Guinea and Rotuma, to the Mashonaland in Southern Africa. They offer a first-hand perspective on the colonial administration of the period and include descriptions of indigenous societies, as well as the changing politics of the various regions.

Condition

In the publisher's original blue cloth binding. Externally in excellent condition with just slight bumping to extremities and the head and tail of the spine. Prior owner's bookplate to front paste down. Small closed tear to rear paste down. Internally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
