The scarce first edition of this work by British Iranologist Edward Granville Browne.

Illustrated with a colour folding map frontispiece. The majority of the frontispiece is lacking.

Edward G. Browne was a Fellow and lecturer in Persian at the University of Cambridge,and spent 1887 to 1888 living in the country.

In this work he records his thoughts and observations on the lifestyles, social character, and customs of the Persian people. Also included are topographical descriptions of Tabriz, Teheran, Isfahan, Shiraz, Yezd, Kirman and more. 

With the bookplate of F. Diba to the front pastedown, and his inscription to a front blank. Diba published a bibliography of Persia in 1981.

With two pages of advertisements to the rear.

A scarce and informative work.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail. Small area of paper residue to back strip tail. Hinges strained, with rear hinge firmly held, and front hinge a touch tender. Bookplate to front pastedown, and inscription to front blank. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright. Lacking the majority of the folding map frontispiece.
