An attractively bound copy of this work, containing the historically significant diaries of Samuel Pepys. 

Includes seven out of the ten volumes for this set. Missing volumes I, IX and X. With new impressions of Volumes IV and VIII. 

Uniformly bound in the publisher's blue cloth, with gilt-decorated spines. 

He served as administrator of the Royal Navy and Member of Parliament and is most famous for these diary entries, of which he wrote over the course of a decade.

The diaries provide a combination of personal revelation and eyewitness accounts of important events, such as the Great Plague of London, the Second Dutch War, and the Great Fire of London.

Edited with additions by Henry B. Wheatley, a British author, editor and indexer whose 'London Past and Present' has been described as "the standard dictionary of London". 

With a frontispiece and two plates to Volume II; frontispiece and one plate to Volume III; frontispiece and three plates to Volume IV; frontispiece and two plates to Volume V; frontispiece, one plate and one folding map to Volume VI; frontispiece and four plates to Volume VII, and a frontispiece and one plate to Volume VIII.
