This fascinating account recounts a 1887 mission to Ethiopia (then known as Abyssinia) to attempt a reconciliation between the Emperor and the Italian government. Despite being unsuccessful, the author returned with a considerably enhanced reputation and was subsequently encouraged to publish this account. 

From Gerald Herbert Portal, a British diplomat and the Consul General for British East Africa and British Special Commissioner to Uganda. 

Illustrated with a frontispiece, eight plates and a folding map showing Portal's route. Collated, complete.

Condition

In the original cloth binding. Externally, very smart, with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Minor fading and slight cocking to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with offsetting to the endpapers and the occasional spot to the page edges.
