    Description

    Illustrated, Leather Binding

    Four volumes bound in two. Uniformly bound in a half morocco binding with marbled end papers and edges.

    Previous owner's ink inscription to the first blank page to each volume, dated 1898.

    Each volume is illustrated with a frontispiece. Six plates to volumes I and II. Seven plates to volume III. Five plates to volume IV. All plates retain the original tissue guards. Collated, complete.

    The complete plays of William Shakespeare, edited by Thomas Keightley (1789-1872). This new edition contains portraits of notable Shakespearean actors such as Ellen Terry, Henry Irving, Mary Kingsley, Herbert Beerbohm Tree and others.

    Undated, dated through copies held at the British Library.

    Condition

    Uniformly bound in a half morocco binding. Externally, smart. A little rubbing to the spine and extremities. Fading to the perimeters of the boards. Damp staining and two small holes to the rear board of volume III & IV. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
