A reprint of Part V of The English Charlemagne Romances series, in a half morocco binding with marbled boards.

Bookplate of Carleton Brown (1869-1914), an American philologist and professor of English, known for his research of Middle English manuscripts. He compiled anthologies of thirteenth- to fifteenth-century lyrics, and wrote many articles, mainly on the work of Chaucer. He edited Poems by Sir John Salusbury and Robert Chester (1914) for the Early English Text Society.

A collection of Middle English romances re-edited with an introduction, notes and glossary by the German philologist Emil Hausknecht (1853-1927).This work is Part V of the Early English Text Society's The English Charlemagne Romances series, and is now scarce.

The Early English Text Society (EETS) is a text publication society, dedicated to the publication of early English texts, especially those only available in manuscript.

Condition

In a half morocco binding. Externally generally smart, though rubbed to the joints and extremities with light shelf wear to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
