What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper

First edition. A mixture of the first and second state, with the first state issue points of the 'G' in 'Midge' not broken to the title page, page 47 unnumbered and the lack of advertisements to the rear, and the second state issue point of page 7 being unnumbered.

Bound in the publisher's original quarter cloth, with an exceptionally scarce publishers cloth dust wrapper.

Gaining popularity in the late nineteenth century, cloth dust wrappers were typically reinforced with paper, with the title in gilt to the spine and were presented in a plain, non-decorative style, as with this example. Very unusual to see this wrap, with no other copies found to have one.

A collection of thirteen amusing tales written by American novelist and journalist, Henry Cuyler Bunner. In this collection, Bunner presents the whimsical side of human nature, featuring relatable characters who find themselves in amusing situations, often riddled with misunderstanding.

Notably, this collection features 'Zenobia's Infidelity', which was later adapted into the 1939 comedy film 'Zenobia', starring Oliver Hardy and Alice Brady, directed by Gordon Douglas.

Charmingly illustrated throughout by Charles Jay Taylor, F. Opper and S. B. Griffin.

With a bookplate of noted American bibliophile and collector, Natalie Knowlton Blair, with her Blairhame leather bookplate to the front paste down.

Condition

Bound in the publisher's quarter cloth, with the publisher's cloth dust wrapper. Externally, excellent with a little bumping to the spine and fading to the board extremities. The odd mark. Bookplate to front paste down. Dust wrapper is also excellent, with a little darkening to the spine. Internally, firmly bound with bright, clean pages.
