First edition. 

In the original half crushed morocco, with cloth boards. 

Illustrated with a frontispiece, six coloured plates and seventeen monochrome plates. Collated, complete. 

Offering a detailed record of medals and honorary distinctions conferred on the British Navy, Army and Auxiliary Forces, from the reign of Queen Elizabeth I to the reign of Queen Victoria. 

Compiled by George Tancred, who rose to the rank of Lieutenant and then Captain of the 2nd Dragoons, commonly called the Scots Greys. 

Bearing the bookplate of one Charles Cayzer to the front pastedown. Cayzer was a British businessman and Conservative Party politician who founded his own shipping business C.W. Cayzer & Company in Liverpool in 1877. He was knighted in 1897, and made a baronet in 1904, of Gartmore, Perthshire.

Condition

In the original half crushed morocco, with cloth boards. Externally, rubbed to the extremities, most notably to the spine. A few small marks to the front board. Front hinge is starting, but firm, and rear hinge is tender. Bookplate of one Charles Cayzer to the front pastedown.
