1890 "Thenks Awf'lly!" Sketched in Cockney and Hung on Twelve Pegs
What Our Customers Say...
Description
A very scarce collection of sketches told in Cockney slang, with its accompanying translations below each sentence.
Organised across twelve "pegs".
Although not credited here, this work is attributed to Andrew White Tuer, a British publisher, writer and printer who, together with Abraham Field, established the partnership of Field & Tuer. The entrepreneur of the pair, Tuer invented the highly successful Stickphast Paste, an alternative to the gums and glues then in use. This book advertises the product to the inside of the front cover.
With four pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear.
Condition
In the publisher's wraps. Externally, with sunning to the spine and dulling around the edges. With loss to the spine head and tail and a couple minor closed tears to the wrap. Glue to front hinge has failed, however text block remains firmly attached to spine. Internally, generally firmly bound, with binding tender in places. Pages are generally bright and clean, with scattered spotting to the first and last couple leaves, more so to the latter.
