This humorous and satirical work was one of the most widely read eighteenth century novels among Victorians, following the lives of the Primrose family through bankruptcy. Written by Oliver Goldsmith, an Anglo-Irish novelist, dramatist, and poet. With a preface by Henry Austin Dobson, an English poet and essayist. Illustrated by Hugh Thomson, an Irish Illustrator best known for his pen-and-ink illustrations of works by authors including Jane Austen, Charles Dickens and J. M. Barrie.
Condition
In the original red cloth binding. Externally, sound with rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine with light loss of the spine label. The odd small mark to the boards. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Scattered spotting and age toning to the endpapers.
